Dundonald Links Accommodation recognised at Scottish Golf Tourism Awards

26 March 2024

Dundonald Links is celebrating following success for its accommodation at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.

The acclaimed Ayrshire resort was named winners in the ‘Best Premium Hotel – 4 Star Equivalent’ category at a lavish ceremony at Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Inverness, on March 21.

The resort received recognition for its innovative accommodation, which was unveiled alongside a new clubhouse in 2021. Guests can choose between a collection of two, four and six-bedroom lodges – designed specifically for golfers, with spacious putting greens outside – and hotel-style one-bedroom pods. All Dundonald accommodation is luxuriously furnished and sleekly designed with sustainability in mind.

Also a finalist for the ‘Best Clubhouse’ and ‘Best Course’ awards, Dundonald was one of just three venues to be shortlisted in more than two categories - and the only course in the west of Scotland to achieve the feat.

Vicki Harrison, general manager at Dundonald Links, said: “Since opening our lodges and pods in 2021, we have been inundated with positive reviews and incredible feedback.

“Being recognised at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards is a real honour and testament to both the success of our investment and the hard work of the team.”

Two decades after Kyle Phillips’ course first opened, Dundonald Links has become a staple of Ayrshire’s world-famous golf coast. Extensive investment since Darwin Escapes’ takeover in 2019 has led to the opening of the new clubhouse and luxury accommodation, creating the ultimate Scottish stay-and-play destination.

The accolade is the latest that Dundonald’s collection of lodges and pods has received and comes less than six months after the resort was crowned ‘Scotland’s Best Golf Hotel’ at the prestigious World Golf Awards.

The course was selected to host the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open from 2015- 2017, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in 2017 and the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open in 2022. In addition, Final Qualifying for The Open Championship will return annually until 2026.

About Dundonald Links
Located in the heart of Ayrshire's golf coast, Dundonald Links is a spectacular venue that has recently hosted both the men's and women's Scottish Opens, becoming the first course to stage both events in the same year in 2017. The original layout was designed by Willie Fernie, the Champion Golfer of 1883, and opened in 1911.

Dundonald Links has been one of Scotland’s most popular golf courses since an extensive renovation by American architect Kyle Phillips two decades ago. The layout is known for its challenging bunkers and imaginative greens, earning a place among the star names of Ayrshire’s famous golf coast.

Under new owners Darwin Escapes, heavy investment has seen Dundonald Links evolve into a fully-fledged resort. Guests can stay in either the premium rooms or a collection of luxurious, self-catering lodges, all just a stone’s throw from the golf course and clubhouse. The Canny Crow restaurant and whisky room pay tribute to the resort’s heritage while maintaining a contemporary feel, crafting a one-of-a-kind golf venue experience.
