Palmares unveiled as new home for Olazabal & Friends Charity Pro-Am

04 June 2025

The fourth edition of the Olazabal & Friends Charity Pro-Am will head to a new venue in Portugal this autumn after Palmares Ocean Living & Golf was unveiled as its new home.

Hosted by two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal, the event from November 21-23 offers amateurs the exclusive opportunity to join the former European Ryder Cup captain and his friends for an up-close and intimate experience at one of Portugal’s top golf resorts.

Nuno Sepulveda, co-CEO at Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, said: “Everyone at Palmares jumped at the opportunity to bring this wonderful event to the resort – the Olazabal & Friends Pro-am is sure to be one of the highlights of the calendar.”

Once again, proceeds raised across the event will be donated to Sport Mundi, a Spanish non-profit organisation dedicated to helping children in need.

Spanish legend Miguel Ángel Jiménez, a 21-time DP World Tour winner and member of four European Ryder Cup teams, has already confirmed that he will tee it up alongside close friend Olazábal at November’s event for the fourth year running, with more big names set to be announced in the coming months.

Each team comprises one professional and three amateurs, with the pro-am including a practice round and two competitive rounds on Palmares’ three acclaimed nine-hole layouts designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr – the Alvor, Lago and Praia.

After the practice round and a welcome dinner on Friday November 21, all three of the nine-hole loops will be in the spotlight across the weekend. Entrants will compete on the Praia and Alvor loops on the first day, followed by the Alvor and Lagos loops to end the tournament.

Across a busy itinerary, attendees will be able to soak in Palmares’ full premium hospitality and leisure offering on the sunny Algarve coast – with another highlight coming in the form of a special dinner at the resort’s Michelin-starred restaurant, AL SUD, and party on the evening of November 22.

Olazábal said: “We are grateful to Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure [Palmares Ocean Living & Golf’s management company] for hosting our charity Pro-Am this year at the wonderful Palmares Ocean Living & Golf. It fills me with pride that we are able to continue our efforts to raise money for children in need - my colleagues at our charity Sport Mundi and I already look forward to a great event in the Algarve!

“Of course, José María Olazábal is one of the great legends of European golf and we can’t wait to see him, Miguel Ángel Jiménez and many more incredible players tee off alongside amateurs for a good cause on Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s masterpiece.”

Characterised by incredible views across the Bay of Lagos, Palmares has cemented a reputation as one of Europe’s bucket-list golfing destinations. The 27-hole golf course, which is renowned for the diverse range of challenges it presents, is supported by award-winning facilities, gastronomy and a stunning selection of real estate. At the heart of the experience is the highly praised clubhouse, winner of ‘Europe’s Best Clubhouse’ at the 2024 World Golf Awards.
