The Madrid Golf Courses Association invites international golfers and industry professionals to discover one of Europe’s most complete and accessible golf destinations: Community of Madrid.
Located in the heart of Spain, the region of Madrid is home to more than 20 golf courses, many of them designed by some of the sport’s most renowned architects, and just a short drive from the city centre and international airport.
Among the region’s golf jewels is the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, a 36-hole facility featuring the Black Course, designed by the legendary Javier Arana. This course has hosted numerous editions of the Open de España and is currently home to the Acciona (este año Acciona desaparece en el naming) Open de España presented by Madrid, a key event on the DP World Tour calendar. Nestled in a natural park with stunning views of the Madrid skyline, it is a must-play for serious golfers.
Just north of the city, the Centro Nacional de Golf, managed by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, is a public facility that offers championship-level play and was the venue for the Open de España 2018, where Jon Rahm claimed victory in front of passionate local crowds. It stands as a model for urban golf, accessible to all and only 10 minutes from downtown Madrid.
The Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo, with two courses designed by Robert von Hagge, is another standout. Its North Course is known for its strategic layout, undulating greens and immaculate conditioning, making it one of the most challenging and rewarding rounds in Spain.
Another great layout is Golf Santander, designed by Rees Jones, one of Europe’s longest courses, and consistently ranked among Spain’s best. Or Real Club de Golf La Herrería, located next to the UNESCO-listed Monastery of El Escorial, offering spectacular mountain views and a peaceful, historic destiny (por lo que decía Raquel de hablar de destinos).
The Club de Golf Retamares, designed by José María Olazábal, combines a technical layout with excellent practice facilities, and has hosted several professional events, including tournaments on the Challenge Tour and the Ladies European Tour. It is also the only 18-hole golf course in Madrid designed by Olázábal.
We’ll finish today by highlighting El Encin Golf Hotel. A standout destination that combines a 4-star hotel with 39 rooms and a spectacular golf course designed by Von Hagge. This exceptional venue has also had the honour of hosting a European Tour event, the prestigious Madrid Masters.
What makes Madrid unique is not only the quality of its courses, but also their proximity: most are located within 30 minutes of the city centre, allowing players to combine a full day of golf with everything Madrid has to offer – gastronomy, nightlife and world-class accommodation with more than 40 five-star hotels and 85 four-star ones.
With over 300 days of sunshine per year and the best connectivity in Southern Europe with European markets and the rest of the world year-round, Madrid is a natural choice for golf lovers seeking quality, convenience and variety.
Whether for a weekend escape, a golf and gastronomy tour, or a professional tournament, Madrid is ready to impress. It’s the place to be.
