Nicknamed the ‘Wentworth of Lisbon’ by many observers, Aroeira Golf Resort – which is 25km south of the Portuguese capital – is rated among the best golf venues in Europe and is blessed with two 18-hole championship courses as well as the chic Aroeira Lisbon Hotel.
Taking place from May 24-28, four-night, three-round tournament packages for this year’s event cost €517 per person – with a two-night stay for two people at the resort including two rounds of golf on offer to the overall winner of the 54-hole net stableford competition.
Prices, which are based on two people sharing a room, include four nights’ bed-and-breakfast accommodation at the Aroeira Lisbon Hotel and three rounds of golf on Aroeira’s two acclaimed courses – Aroeira Pines Classic, a two-time host of the Portuguese Open, and Aroeira Challenge.
A welcome cocktail, free golf shuttles and a prize-giving dinner are also included, while competitors will have the chance to relax and unwind after golf on May 26 by taking advantage of the free yoga, Pilates and wine-tasting sessions that are available.
To enter, golfers must provide a handicap certificate with those playing off 36 and below able to take part.
Designed by Frank Pennink and meandering through tall avenues of pine forest and surrounded by wildlife and nature, Aroeira Pines Classic plays to 6,650 yards and demands accuracy and placement off the tee if you’re to score well.
Opened in 2000 and designed by Donald Steel, Aroeira Challenge complements its older sibling well and visitors will discover a course that possesses a few more thrills and spills along the way. At more than 7,000 yards from the tips, the course bares its teeth with water in play on nine holes and large, undulating greens testing the putter to the max.
