New Golf Director appointed at Penha Longa Resort

21 September 2018

Teresa Abreu has been appointed Golf Director at Penha Longa Resort in Portugal — home of the internationally renowned 18-hole The Atlantic course.

Teresa Abreu has been involved with driving the success of the resort’s two spectacular golf courses since she started working at the resort in 2011. Prior to her appointment she was Director of Travel Industry and Reservations at Penha Longa for two years.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity to represent one of Europe’s most iconic resort golfing destinations and I’m excited to be playing such a key role in its future success,” Ms. Abreu said. “I am a huge golf enthusiast, so to be appointed the Golf Director for Penha Longa really is a dream come true.”

Penha Longa’s reputation for golfing excellence is founded on its famous The Atlantic course, an 18-hole, par 72, Championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The resort recently ranked in the top 20 among the list of 100 best European Golf Resorts published by Golf World and was named the ‘Best Luxury Golf Resort in Europe 2017’ by the Luxury Guide Awards.

In addition to The Atlantic, the nine-hole Monastery Course is a par 35 executive course that encompasses stunning panoramas of the resort’s historic buildings. Both courses are in the heart of Portugal’s spectacular Sintra Mountain National Park — an area once used as a summer retreat from the nearby Portuguese capital of Lisbon by the Portuguese Royal Family.

“Teresa has incredible enthusiasm for the sport and there is no doubt in my mind that she will continue to build on the success of Penha Longa as an exceptional destination for discerning golfers worldwide,” said the resort’s General Manager David Martinez

Today, the breathtakingly beautiful resort encompasses a luxurious hotel, a nineteenth century palace originally founded as a monastery in the fourteenth century, two spectacular golf courses, a superb Penha Longa Spa and eight exceptional dining facilities, including Michelin Star restaurant LAB by Sergi Arola.
