DER ÖSCHBERGHOF impresses even more after refurbishment

31 October 2019

The 5-star superior resort Der Öschberghof is located at the rim of Donaueschingen, not far from the Black Forest, Lake Constance and Switzerland. Originally a country and golf club with an affiliated hotel, it was opened in 1976 and has been regularly modernised and expanded over the years. From autumn 2015 to the end of 2018, the resort was comprehensively and fundamentally renovated and redesigned, now featuring a total 110 guest rooms, three junior suites and 13 suites. The hotel is surrounded by three scenic golf courses, offering a total of 45 holes with their Tee’s in walking distance. The newly-build exclusive ÖSCH SPA extends over 5,000 sqm with various saunas, steam baths, an ice lounge, indoor and outdoor infinity pools as well as a spacious ÖSCH GYM. The culinary offer comprises of four different restaurants: ÖSCH NOIR (Fine Dining), the “Esszimmer” (upscale international cuisine with regional influences), the Ristorante and Pizzeria Hexenweiher (Italian specialities) as well as the Öventhütte (Alpine cuisine). The extensive bar includes a Smokers Lounge with walk-in humidor. The spacious “Living Room” has a cosy fireplace and day bar, offering light snacks, beverages and cakes during the day. An extensive conference centre offers six fully equipped conference rooms of different sizes as well as a 400 sqm banqueting hall for up to 300 people. The hotel’s parking garage adjacent to the resort has 140 spaces.

The 126 beautifully appointed rooms and suites are equipped with an intelligent room concept and either a balcony or terrace. Warm colours and the use of wood as well as high quality furnishings such as beds by Schramm and bedding by Mühldorfer add to a warm and luxurious interior. While nine Dependance rooms in the Comfort category (32 sqm) and six of the suites (48 sqm) are located in the outbuilding, the main building’s South Wing contains a total of 31 rooms of which 24 are Deluxe rooms (36 sqm), six are suites (52 sqm) and the large Öschberghof Suite (111 sqm). The North Wing is home to 36 Premium rooms (36 sqm) and 17 Single premium rooms (24 sqm), while the annex north offers 24 Deluxe rooms (36 sqm) and three Junior Suites (51 sqm).

The Öschberghof is surrounded by three Golf courses, totalling 45 holes within walking distance of the hotel, a driving range, two caddy halls, the golf academy with two indoor teeing grounds and a golf and fashion shop.

  • The Old Course is an 18-hole course with a total length of 6,000 m in a park landscape with a diverse tree population.
  • The East Course (18-hole, par 72, 5,700 m) was adapted to the open landscape with wide views and various biotopes.
  • The 9-hole Academy Course (par 34, 2,400 m) has been specifically designed to offer even spectacular views and hits. The three Golf courses form the Land- & Golfclub Öschberghof, which is being headed by Alexander Hengst.

Culinary delights

The Öschberghof offers a variety of culinary offers in four restaurants, each of which offering authenticity and highest quality, thus fitting perfectly to the overall concept of the luxury resort.

ÖSCH NOIR - The hotel’s fine dining restaurant offers 40 seats in a modern setting with extraordinary design elements. Headchef Manuel Ulrich comes from the region and started his culinary career at the Öschberghof. After different tenures in Oberlech/Arlberg, the 2-Michelin-starred Restaurant Haerlin in the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg and most recently in the 3-Star-Michelin Schwarzwaldstube in the Traube Tonbach, Baisersbronn, Ulrich has now returned to his home turf, offering his own, modern interpretation of typical Black Forrest cuisine with the support of his mainly local team.

Esszimmer – The restaurant, with a ceiling height of around eight metres, offers a breath-taking view over the golf course through its floor-to ceiling window front and seating space for a total of up to 220 people. Intelligently installed room dividers ensure cosy corners and seating areas while being flexible. Breakfast, afternoon snack and dinner for resort guests and local visitors are served here. A separate club room is also available for private parties.

Since April 2018, Gregor Schuber has been the kitchen director at the Öschberghof. He is also responsible for the kitchen catering the conference centre, including the banquet hall.

Bar – Fashionably designed seating areas in earth tones and royal blue as well as the long bar counter invite guests to enjoy the evenings. Bar chef Julian Hischmann has over 120 whisk(e)y and more than 80 rum varieties to choose from, as well as various homemade syrups. In the adjacent Smokers Lounge with fireplace and walk-in humidor, cigar fans can choose from over 100 different varieties.

Wohnzimmer with Tagesbar – The living room, located in the immediate vicinity of the hotel lobby, offers the ideal retreat for resort guests. The adjacent day bar offers a wide range of hot and cold drinks as well as a snack menu and cakes and tarts from the hotel's own patisserie, which are served all day.

Ristorante & Pizzeria Hexenweiher – Here, upscale Italian cuisine with regional influences is served, including pizza from the stone oven as well as pasta. The restaurant is furnished in a modern Italian style and has several rooms with a total of 140 seats as well as a large protected terrace (200 seats) with a view of the extensive golf course. The restaurant is located right next to the golf secretary's office and therefore also functions as a clubhouse for golfers.

Öventhütte – The alpine-style hut with open-air grill station is situated in the middle of the forrest, adjacent to one of the golf courses and offers Alpine home-style cuisine from midday onwards for around 100 seats. Thanks to its undisturbed location, the Öventhütte is also popular for weddings and other large events, as celebrations are possible here until the early hours of the morning.

ÖSCH SPA
The ÖSCH SPA offers on over 5.000 sqm an extremely generous relaxation oasis for all senses.

Asia SPA
The Asian-inspired Spa-area offering Kamaburo (stone bath), Sento (steam bath) and the warm onsen pool reminds of the Japanese bathing cultures and is authentically decorated with dark stones, red lamps and walls with gilded floral and bamboo accents.

Harmony SPA
A bright orange salt stone wall in one of the relaxing areas serves as an optical reference to the micro-salt-technology, which has been installed by Klafs, the German sauna and bath specialist. Guests inhale a particularly fine salt aerosol, which in contrast to conventional salt applications, distributes the fine salt particles all over the entire respiratory system. Regular applications can thus help to clean and revitalise the skin and support the immune system.

Energy SPA
The 36 sqm event sauna with inner courtyard, a design sauna made entirely from glass, a steam bath and an infrared cabin with sophisticated lighting effects turn the sauna experience into an energising exercise. An innovative ice lounge provides a dynamic contrast to the heat.

Lady SPA
Here, exclusive sauna and steam bath cabins as well as a separate relaxing area, decorated in delicate beige-turquoise colour shades with waving curtains offer a separate oasis of calm and relaxation.

The pools
The spacious indoor pool (25 x 12.5 m) and the 20 m long, all-year-round heated Infinity outdoor pool with 1.5 % salt offer pleasant refreshment.

The state-of-the-art ÖSCH GYM, an innovatively designed activity playground for adults with indoor and outdoor training areas on more than 550 sqm, is equipped with the latest Technogym equipment, providing the perfect facility for an overall workout. A cube wall, an outdoor companion facility, but also self-propelled Skillmill equipment and the Kinesis and Logical Golf walls from Technogym are some of the highlights, not to mention the extensive daily workout program as well as the personal training.

Conferences and Events

In the newly built conference centre, which also features its separate entrance, the Öschberghof offers five individual rooms with a size of 60 to 90 sqm (for 18 to 88 persons) on the ground and 1st floor as well as a board room with fixed seating for 14 people on the 1st floor. The banqueting hall on the ground floor is 400 sqm large and can accommodate up to 300 people (each with after seating). The conference foyer is also available for receptions and coffee breaks. For exclusive meetings, part of the large Öschberghof Suite can also be booked for smaller groups. A professional conference team provides competent and personal advice for any type of business or private event, from conferences and meetings to parties and weddings. All rooms have daylight, are air-conditioned, barrier-free and equipped with modern audio-visual equipment.

Alexander Aisenbrey has been Managing Director of the Öschberghof since 2003.
