Coinciding with the World Water Week, AGM announces the positive impact of its measures aimed at reducing recycled water
Arabella Golf Mallorca, the resort that comprises Golf Son Vida, Golf Son Muntaner and Golf Son Quint has reduced by 23,65 % its consumption of recycled water* during the last seven months, thanks to the improvements introduced in the resource management. Between January and July 2018, Arabella Golf Resort used 469.961 cubic metres of recycled water, which corresponds to a reduction of 23,65% compared with the same period of the previous year (615.621 m³).
This has been possible due to the work of the whole team of Arabella Golf and to the actions performed in the optimisation of the water management system; the most important of which is the replacement of all the grass of Golf Son Muntaner by a species that has less need for water. This ambitious project of total change of the grass has allowed not only for a lower recycled water consumption, but also for a considerable reduction of fertilisers and other chemical products.
Environmental Strategic Plan
“Arabella Golf Mallorca has been clearly committed to sustainability for twelve years. Now is the moment to consolidate all the initiatives and to make a qualitative jump towards a comprehensive project which allows to consider the environment in all our decisions”, explained Bernat Llobera, area manager of Arabella Golf Mallorca.
“We are currently designing an Environmental Strategic Plan, which integrates sustainability into our mission and vision, defining measures aimed at achieving specific environmental objectives for the next three or four years”, ads Llobera. “This will definitely complement our environmental commitment, already recognised by ISO 14001 for environmental management and EMAS certifications, the most important distinction in the area of environmental management that a company can obtain in the European Union”, he says.
*Note: The three golf courses of Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint are irrigated using recycled water by a water purifier which – if was not treated and re-used in the courses – would go to sea. For you to get to know the cycle of recycled water, Arabella Golf Mallorca has prepared an explanatory video that can be viewed here (YouTube).
