For golf lovers, the chance to score a birdie on some of the most glorious fairways in Scotland—the very birthplace of golf—may be a lifelong ambition. To journey to the greens aboard the luxurious Belmond Royal Scotsman raises the dream to another level. Add a celebrated Scottish golfer as your guide and you’ve got a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
On June 25, 2018, former Ryder Cup captain and golfing legend Sam Torrance OBE will join passengers on an exceptional journey. With just 40 guests on board, the intimate atmosphere means there’ll be ample opportunity to get to know your charismatic host as you course into the rugged and beautiful Highlands.
You’ll travel from Edinburgh up the east coast, gazing out over historic towns and stately castles. An exquisite dinner is served as you journey past Inverness and stop at Tain, Scotland’s oldest royal burgh, for the night.
The sporting action begins the following day, when golfers alight with Sam Torrance at Royal Dornoch Golf Club. The most northerly of the UK’s championship courses, its wild, isolated setting attracts golfers from all over the world. Sam will give tips on how to improve your game as you tackle the spellbinding natural links. In the evening, after a sumptuous dinner of local specialities back on board, he’ll regale you with stories from his golfing career.
The next morning before Sam departs, golfers head for a round at the Castle Stuart Golf Links, affording panoramic views across the Moray Firth. The magnificent, challenging course was host venue for the Scottish Open from 2011-13 and again in 2016.
Your third scenic game is at Kingsbarns Golf Links, perched on the dramatic coast just beyond St Andrews. With its rippling fairways, humps, hollows and snaking Cambo Burn, the host course of the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship continues to gain rapturous plaudits.
But this exceptional journey isn’t just for golfers. Non-players enjoy your own fascinating itinerary with excursions exploring the heart of the Highlands. Visit Glenmorangie distillery, home to the tallest copper stills in Scotland, fairytale Cawdor Castle, dramatic Culloden Battlefield, and enchanting St Andrews, where medieval ruins meet white sands. When you wish to truly relax, indulge in a bespoke treatment in the train’s fabulous Bamford Haybarn Spa carriage.
Naturally, all guests gather together on board for gourmet dinners and convivial entertainment, culminating in some lively Scottish country dancing. A fitting finale to an unforgettable tour.
The Scottish Golf Tour in Association with Sam Torrance is a four-night journey from 25-29 June, 2018. The guide price of £6,430 per guest includes all green fees and electric cart hire. Non-golfer will travel on The Grampians and Beyond journey on the above dates with a guide price from £4,605 per guest. Both journeys include onboard meals, beverages, alcoholic drinks, excursions and entertainment.
