European Tour Operators enjoy Tenerife visit

18 September 2018

Sixteen specialist golf tour operators from across Europe visited Tenerife last week to experience what golfers have been discovering for themselves: the island is the perfect year-round golf destination

Operators from Ireland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, Holland and the UK - including Europe's two largest golf specialist, Golf Breaks and Your Golf Travel - were hosted by Tenerife Golf, a membership-led independent body, which markets the island overseas.

During the five-day visit, the 16 guests stayed at both the Baia del Duque and Jardin Tropical hotels, visited three others - Iberostar Anthelia, Hard Rock Hotel and Las Madrigueras - and played golf at Abama, Golf del Sur and Golf Costa Adeje.

It illustrated to the operators just how much the quality, value and depth of the Tenerife golf offering has been elevated over the past few years and Susanna Särkinen, of Finnish operator Golf Tailors was suitably impressed.

She said: "This was a very worthwhile visit for it confirmed what we had been led to believe, that the golf product in Tenerife is now of a very high quality and that the island is an ideal destination for year-round golf.

"If I take nothing else away from the visit I have learned that its mild summer climate ensures it remains a perfect golfing destination even at the hottest time of the year, which gives it a big advantage over many other destinations."

A spokesman for Tenerife Golf, Carlos Beautell, said: "It was a pleasure to host such a pleasant group of tour operators - they were a credit to the industry and I hope they felt they gained plenty of positive information with which to inform their colleagues and clients."

Average summer temperatures of 25°c on Tenerife provide the ideal climate to enjoy a relaxing golf break thanks to cooling trade winds; while - in contrast to almost everywhere else - golf and hotel rates are generally 20 per cent cheaper than in winter time.

Tenerife features nine different and varied layouts: Buenavista and Real Club de Golf de Tenerife in the north, and Golf Costa Adeje, Abama, Las Americas, Golf del Sur, Amarilla, and Los Palos in the south. Tecina Golf is a 40-minute ferry ride from the mainland on the beautiful island of La Gomera.

The island also offers 70km of beaches and a wide range of cultural highlights and activities both on and off the water, making it the ideal location for a golf break. Tenerife is served by two airports - Tenerife North and Tenerife South - and is barely a four-hour flight from the UK, and no more than a five-hour direct flight from most main European cities.
