Oliver Fisher makes history on The European Tour having shot the first-ever sub-60 round following a 12-under par score of 59 at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course during the Portugal Masters

In perfect playing conditions, in Portugal’s stunning Vilamoura region, history was finally made on the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course this afternoon as Englishman Oliver Fisher shot the first-ever sub-60 score on The European Tour with a 12 under-par score of 59. Fisher, who has one victory on The European Tour, at the Czech Open in 2011, displayed incredible composure throughout the back-nine after a stunning 28 on the front nine; holing a clutch 20 foot putt on the par-3 16th for par before making the all-important birdie to reach 12-under on the par-5, 17th. A text-book par on the par-4 finishing hole guaranteed the Englishman a place in the record-books.

Fisher, who celebrated his 30th birthday last week, has fond memories of the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course, which was designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer, having fired a 64 in the final round of the 2016 Portugal Masters to guarantee his European Tour playing privileges for the following season.

“It feels great, I started with three birdies and I just kept it going. I’m really pleased I could two-putt there on the last,” said Fisher, speaking on the 18th at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course immediately after holing the iconic putt.

“It was very different to a couple of years ago when I was fighting to keep my card here, but (the score) was in the back of my mind all day. I said to my caddy, Guy (after the par putt on 16) we’ve got a couple of holes to enjoy it, it’s not that often we get the chance to shoot a really low one on Tour. The final two holes are all about the drives and I managed to do that.”

He leads in the clubhouse at the half-way stage following a level-par-71, in the first round.
